Archives

The aim of the project is the automatic arrangement and valorization of IRI Historical Archives, which is kept in the State Central Archives. Since 1981 this collection of documents has been known and studied by reasearchers when the fifth part of it has been transferred from IRI to State Central Archives.

Documents currently available (about 100 metres) is split up into two main sections:

Black Series

It is made up of 108 boxes coming from officies and organizations attached to IRI. This series also includes many flimsy paper registers (more than 400) of the outgoing mail, till the middle forties. Waiting for a more sound identification and final arrangement, the blach series is roughtly composed of:

papers of the Istituto di Liquidazione, whose transfer of the whole assets, liabilities and functions to IRI with its conseguent suppression, were settled with the same act of IRI constitution;
papers of the two sections that formed IRI from the origin to the transformation into permanent institution in 1937, the Sezione Smobilizzi and the Sezione Finanziamenti. In particular records of the board of Directors of the two sections;
papers of IRI Offices and Departments till the war (secretary general, inspectorate, research bureau, finance, etc.). In particular, papers concerned with banking unfreezing transactions and the following assessments of the main industrial partecipations (iron metallurgy, electric sector, shipyard, telephone services, etc.);
papers concerning the Second World War period, IRI commissarial management,and the moving of the Institute to Milan during German Occupation and the creation of the Social Republic.

Red Series

It is made up of 540 boxes concerning the industrial and financial Companies, in wich IRI has or had partecipations as from its foundations in 1933. The Red Series represents only a portion of the whole archives stored in the Institute Repositary.

The papers are divided into three groups each company. The first group is formed of the deed of partnership, statutes, meetings and annual balance sheets, managerial staffs composition. The second group of documents is formed of records, minutes and resolutions of General Meetings, Boards of Directors, Committees, as well as book-keeping and patrimonial data collections, memorandum resolutions and notes of IRI offices relating to the companies; Finally, the third group is formed of general mail and records concerning financial transactions and companies changing stock capital.
Obviously, the quantity and quality of the documents varies depending on the company importance.

Query form

The classification of materials has producted 8000 records until now, corresponding to 300.000 images stored on optical media in TIF CCITT4 format.
In particular, the Black Series has been completed. The flimsy paper registers has been almost completed and the Red Series has been started up.
